There are forms in Japanese language such as ta-from, nai-form, te-form and so on.
First, you have to memorize them. ( I know, good luck. がんばれ〜)
Summarized them below. Check the relation between form and grammar.
Masu-form/Polite ます形（ます-けい）丁寧形（ていねい-けい）
In case of masu-form, you can make these structures.
Masu-form goes with….
- 〜ます／〜ません
食べます。(e.g. I eat)/食べません。(e.g. I don’t eat) - 〜ましょう
食べましょう。(e.g. Let’s eat) - 〜ませんか
食べませんか。(e.g. Would you like to have dinner with me?) - 〜たいです／〜たくないです

Dictionally-form 辞書形（じしょ-けい）

Ta-form た形（ta-form)

- たことがあります。(* you have experience to do)
食べたことがあります。(e.g. I have eaten it.) - たり、たりします。(* you do a lot, and you can pick some of them/all of them.)
食べたり、飲んだりします。( e.g. I eat and drink.)
